The EMRS scheme is run by the Government of India under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs for tribal students across the country. For the smooth functioning of EMRS, NESTS, (National Education Society for Tribal Students) a registered society is set up which works as an autonomous body. To give more focus on the integrated socio-economic development of the Scheduled Tribes (STs), the underprivileged section of the Indian Society, it ensures to provide quality education to the tribal students even in remote areas. Presently, 476 functional EMRSs are running country wide and Total 728 EMRSs have been sanctioned, as per declaration by the hon'ble Prime Minister.
The sanction of Eklavya Model Residential School was given by the Ministry of Tribal Affair, Govt of India, under article 275(1) as per the Gazette notification no- 14020/11/2002-SG&C dt. - 19.02.2004. The vidyalaya was started on date 25 Aug. 2022. The Vidyalaya is being run by Tribal Welfare Dept., Govt. of Uttarakhand, under the supervision of a registered society named Eklavya Vidyalaya Sangathan Samiti, Dehradun.
The Vidyalaya is meant for talented children predominantly from rural/tribal areas of Uttarakhand. Vidyalaya is co-educational and fully residential. The Vidyalaya is running up to class XII. The Govt. is providing free education including boarding and lodging along with free uniforms, textbooks, and stationery. The medium of instruction is bilingual up to class VIII and English afterwards. The management of Vidyalaya is being looked after by Eklavya Vidyalaya Sangathan Samiti, Dehradun, headed by Principal Secretary, Dept. of Social Welfare, Govt. of Uttarakhand.
